Transbay Transit Terminal San Francisco

San Francisco's new transit terminal will concentrate all transportation in the city to accommodate the nine systems under one roof. Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects has designed a new terminal, 1.3 mile extension of Caltrain rail line, and rebuilding the surrounding area which will add 2600 new homes, a 5.4 hectare park roof and street retail. And loans of more than 170 million U.S. dollars provided by the Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act has given the project an extra boost foward. After completion in 2014, the terminal will include wind turbines, geothermal heating method and graywater recycling system. Hub will be a strong message that green technology can be successfully combined with modern transport. "We are very pleased to be one of the first modern railway stations in the United States to achieve this milestone and look forward to continuing to make progress on the Transbay Project,"said Maria Ayerdi-Kaplan, Executive Director of the Transbay Joint Powers Authority (TJPA).
